design survival campEvery couple of years, the Wanganui Polytech School of Design organises this graphic design conference - easily the best in New Zealand. This year P. Scott Makela is coming down for the keynote; last time it was David (hey babe, wanna see my portfolio) Carson.The best thing about the camp is just that all New Zealand design students actually get together and compare notes on what they're doing; God knows the New Zealand industry doesn't take a pro-active role in the creation of an energetic design community... It's held May 23/24 in Wanganui; if you miss this one, book a ticket for 1999. By the way, if you like Brian Smith's site design, you'll be hard pressed to find the rest of his work. Brian's a great guy, but he just can't seem to get around to doing a homepage. Hmmm. You can check out some of his typographic work at the Musee site...
