The chunky, transparent brain was part of a school project. Its form was modelled in Extreme 3D, then textured, lit and animated in StudioPro Blitz. The brain makes extensive use of bump, transparency and specularity maps. I've found Wacom tablets to be worth their weight in gold for creating nice organic maps for 3D work -- probably the only time I prefer them to a mouse.
